GE, GE Profile, Café, and Monogram cover several different refrigerator filter families, not just one — RPWFE, RPWF, MWF, MSWF, GSWF, and XWFE are all real, current GE filter numbers used across different models and generations. This page currently covers RPWFE and its older non-chip predecessor RPWF. If your model uses one of those, the real question is whether it requires the RFID-chip RPWFE or whether the older RPWF still works — see the table below. Whole-house systems like FXHTC/GXWH40L are a completely different product and don’t apply to refrigerators.

“P” prefix = GE Profile, “C” prefix = Café. Always confirm against the code printed on your existing filter before ordering — RFID-mandatory models will reject a non-chip filter even if it physically fits.

Why Getting This Wrong Costs You

On RFID-mandatory models, the fridge reads a chip in the RPWFE cartridge to confirm it’s genuine — a non-chip RPWF or aftermarket filter will fit the housing but won’t clear the “replace filter” alert, and can lock the dispenser. There’s no verified aftermarket cross-reference for RPWFE itself because of the chip requirement; RPWF, being non-chip, does have aftermarket options on models where it’s accepted.

Do all GE refrigerators use RPWFE?

No. GE currently sells several different filter families — RPWFE, RPWF, MWF, MSWF, GSWF, and XWFE — and which one your fridge takes depends on the model and generation. What’s the difference between RPWFE and RPWF?

RPWFE adds an RFID chip that some newer GE models require for the filter to be recognized. RPWF is the older, non-chip version. On models that accept both, they’re functionally interchangeable.

Can I use an aftermarket filter in my GE fridge?

It depends on which filter your model requires. RFID-mandatory models will not accept a non-chip aftermarket filter — only genuine RPWFE works. On models where RPWF is accepted, non-chip aftermarket options exist and are usually cheaper.
